"Tap into the community of students in this online MBA program. Take advantage of your time here to develop your network through meaningful online discussion board conversations with your peers."
PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology – University of Houston, 2009
In which online degree program do you teach?
Which classes do you teach online?
Managing for Higher Performance (MGT-5410).
What do students learn in your classes? What is the expected outcome?
The class helps students to explore and synthesize major management concepts, such as motivation, managing teams, and organizational change. It is designed to be both practical and self-reflective. Students are encouraged to apply readings to transform their own management practices through weekly self-assessments, simulations, discussions with peers and a final project that applies one aspect of management to concretely improve their current workplace.
Why did you start teaching?
I love to facilitate opportunities for students to have "Aha!" moments, when a concept really comes alive and sinks in. I have been fueled by such moments in my education, and I really want to be on the other side of that. I love to watch as a student struggles with a concept until it finally clicks, and then direct them to dig even deeper for transformative learning.
What advice would you give to prospective online students?
Tap into the community of students in this online MBA program. Take advantage of your time here to develop your network through meaningful online discussion board conversations with your peers. And your peers can help support you through this MBA journey; we all need a little support. I learn so much from my students and their diverse business experiences.
What is the one book you think everyone should read?
"Ulysses" by James Joyce
Tell us something your students may not know about you:
I am a board game fanatic: I love relaxing with friends around a challenging, competitive strategy game like Settlers of Catan, Dominion, or Machi Koro. That is my definition of relaxation!
