  • Which classes do you teach online?

FIN 5460: Fundamentals of Applied Finance

  • What do students learn in this class? What is the expected outcome?

The intended outcome for students that take my course is a fundamental, theoretical understanding of basic financial valuation skills coupled with the knowledge necessary to apply those skills in a personal and professional context.

  • Why did you start teaching?

I hail from a family that deeply values education as a catalyst to positive personal, professional and societal change. After a successful military career, I enjoy passing along essential skills and competencies that can assist others to reach a higher level of performance and success.

  • What advice would you give to prospective online MBA students?

Never stop learning and never assume you are the smartest person in the room—even when you're the only one there. Stay humble. Stay hungry. Stay grounded. Be the kind of person that your dog thinks you are.

Our family has bred and raised quarter horses since the days of the horse mounted cavalry in western South Dakota. My grandfather used to sell horses to the U.S. Army at Fort Robinson, Nebraska. In more recent times, we have developed numerous American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) world champions, AQHA champions, youth champions and more. We have also operated a horse hotel in Rapid City, South Dakota, since 2010 that accommodates travelers with horses.
